Good Morning, you resilient bright stars.
This week felt like:
I’ve implemented all of these little strategies and routines trying to stay in front of my emotions - emotions, which I lovingly refer to as “the wolves at the gate.” So, as I clean up the dishes or drink some water, I hear myself muttering, “just keep the wolves at the gate, just keep the wolves at the gate…” in a naive attempt to somehow outrun* (*control) this thing.
What I realized (once again) this week is I need to let them in. To stop running and face them. Not to be mauled or consumed, but instead find a way to co-exist. I mean, the idea that the wolves have been “at the gate” and not tamped down just under my raw nerve of a surface this whole time is HILARIOUSLY and TRAGICALLY misrepresenting my current mental state.
And then I saw Brene Brown’s Instagram. Her caption… brought me to my knees. It was exactly what I needed to hear. What we need to hear:
Each Monday morning, I’ll gather:

This iced tea is so good. And? It’s easy. It’s one big tea bag that you drop into a pitcher, boil water and steep. And it’s DELICIOUS. Not, the usual make-at-home dishwater iced teas that are flavorless … no, this is THE ONE. (I bought mine at Julienne.)
This is a piece of advice that’s working for me, so take what you need and leave the rest: but I’ve been unfollowing and muting on social media with ABANDON. I just… can’t right now. 🚮👀
I’ve started taking the LA Times in an attempt to get my local news from one source rather than spend hours getting hot takes on Twitter. I subscribe to a few other news outlets, as well.
I’m trying to contain my news intake to 30 minutes a day total. And those 30 minutes are chunked into smaller allotments of time throughout the day, not all at once. I even set the timer on my phone as I can’t be trusted and keep getting sucked down rabbit-holes.
Yes, I baked banana bread. I know. But, it’s delicious and cuddly and even I could make it, so…
